
Andrei Tarkovsky's “The Mirror“, directed by Bülent Özdil - hosted on the GSTT stage
On March 21, 2025, an unusual theatrical production will have its world premiere: the stage adaptation of Andrei Tarkovsky's iconic film “The Mirror“.
We are pleased that in the 2025 edition of the Romanian Theater Union (UNITER) Awards, the director Niky Wolcz, a close friend of the German State Theater Timișoara, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The 33rd edition of the UNITER Awards Gala will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the "Amza Pellea" Hall of the Craiova National Theatre, on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Craiova theater.
Niky Wolcz was born in Timișoara and studied acting at the Institute for Theatrical and Cinematographic Art in Bucharest. He started his acting career at the GSTT and later performed at the renowned Bulandra Theater. After leaving the country in 1975, he directed at numerous theaters and operas in Germany, including Bochum, Essen and Frankfurt, as well as in Austria, Switzerland and France. Since the mid-1990s, Wolcz has taught acting at Columbia University in New York with his wife Ursula. He has worked as a director and choreographer at La MaMa Theater in New York, the American Repertory Theatre in Boston and The Metropolitan Opera in New York, among others.
In recent years, Niky Wolcz has directed The Servant of Two Masters, Lysistrata 3.0, Nadirs and Leonce and Lena, which you can also see in the current season!
